Event Onboarding personalizes the attendee experience and allows admins to collect key information when someone first joins a specific event.
Key Points
- Event Onboarding ≠ Account Onboarding
- Account Onboarding → happens once, when a user first joins.
- Event Onboarding → optional, per event; can be enabled/disabled anytime.
Enabling Event Onboarding
Go to the Admin Site.
From your event menu, click Onboarding.
Click Enable Event Onboarding.
Once enabled, you can customize the onboarding flow.
Customization Options
1. Details
- Add a Welcome Message (short, clear, friendly).
- Upload an Onboarding Image.
- Option to disable onboarding at any time.
2. Options
- Enable Topics → tags/categories to connect attendees with similar interests.
- Profile Visibility → attendees choose to make their profile public or private (grayed out if event settings don’t support private profiles).
- Terms & Conditions → require attendees to accept before entry.
- Acceptance is mandatory.
- Exportable list of accepted attendees.
3. Event Custom Fields
- Collect event-specific information beyond standard profiles. Ways to create/update:
- Click the hyperlink in the onboarding section, or
- Navigate to Attendees → Custom Fields.
Notes:
- Responses appear in attendee profiles and in exports.
- Add a header explaining why the question is asked.
- Choose to include all or selected custom fields in onboarding.
4. Video
- Upload a welcome or instructional video.
Keep in mind:
- Videos cannot be skipped → keep them short/engaging.
- Attendees cannot rewatch unless you upload video elsewhere.
- Embedded videos (YouTube/Vimeo) not supported in mobile app onboarding.
- Compress video before upload for smooth playback.
Resetting Onboarding
- Go to the Reset Onboarding section.
- Enter the attendee’s email, select their name, and click Reset.
Resetting removes previous Terms & Conditions acceptance → attendee must accept again.
To reset onboarding for all attendees, disable and re-enable Terms & Conditions. You’ll be prompted to reset onboarding for everyone at once.
You’re now ready to configure Event Onboarding and tailor the first-time attendee experience.
