Direct Messaging other Attendees

Direct messaging lets you have private, one-on-one conversations with other attendees, right inside the Cadence platform. Your message history is saved across all events you've attended, so you can pick up where you left off.

Opening Messaging

On web, click the Messaging icon on the right-hand side of your screen. Under Direct Messages, you'll see everyone you've previously messaged across all your events.

Starting a new direct message

You can kick off a new conversation from two places:
From an attendee's profile Open the attendee's profile and connect with them first. Once you're connected, select the Messaging icon in their Contact Options to start a conversation.
From the Direct Messages list Open the Messaging panel and tap the + button next to the Direct Messages header. Search for the attendee you'd like to reach and select their name to open a new chat.
Note: If direct messaging is restricted to connections only, you'll need to connect with an attendee before you can message them. Your event admin controls this setting.

What you can do in a direct message

Once you're in a conversation, here's what's available:
  • Send a message — type and send written messages
  • Attach media — share photos or videos; you can include up to 10 photos in a single message (images are cropped by default on Android)
  • Like a message — tap the heart icon on any message
  • Pin a message — pin important messages so they're easy to find later
  • Report a message — use the report option if you see something that violates community guidelines; you'll see a confirmation once your report is submitted
Note: All messages sent through the platform may be visible to event administrators.

Public & Private Group Channels

Group channels let attendees connect around shared topics, teams, or interests. You can create a private space for a small group or open it up so anyone at the event can join.

Creating a channel

When you create a new channel, you'll choose between two types:
Private channel Only visible to you and the people you invite. Good for team coordination or smaller group conversations.
Public channel Visible to all attendees, who can join and participate freely. A good fit for event-wide topics like Q&A, networking, or shared moments.
Give your channel a name and a purpose to help attendees understand what it's for. For example: a public channel called "Favorite Moments" with the purpose "Share highlights from the event via text, photo, or video."

Managing a channel

Inside any channel, you'll find these options:
  • Channel Details — update the channel name, purpose, or member list
  • Invite Members — search your connections at the event and add them to the channel
  • Leave Channel — removes the channel from your list
  • Delete Group — archives the channel for the event
Note: Only the channel creator can delete a group. Leaving a channel doesn't delete it for other members.
