How to customize menu icons and labels

The Menu section in Cadence allows you to personalize your event's navigation by customizing both the icons and labels that appear in your menu. From the Menu page in Event Setup, you can modify existing menu items or create new ones with custom icons and labels that better reflect your event's terminology and improve the attendee experience.

When to use

  • When standard menu icons don't match your menu item's purpose
  • When you need more descriptive or industry-specific menu labels
  • When creating custom menu items that need appropriate visual representation
  • When organizing related content under nested menu items with consistent branding
You must have Admin or Event Manager permissions to customize menu icons and labels.

How to do it

Navigate to your event in the Cadence admin dashboard.
Select Menu from the Event Setup section in the left navigation.
Locate the menu item you want to customize in the list.
Click the pencil icon next to the menu item to edit it.
Modify the "Menu Label" field to change the displayed name.
Keep labels concise (under 20 characters) for better display on mobile devices.
Select a new icon from the dropdown menu.
For standard menu items, you'll see a "Custom Icon" checkbox that must be enabled before changing the icon.
Check "Custom Icon" if you're editing a standard menu item.
Some system menu items may not allow icon customization depending on your license type.
Choose an icon from the dropdown that appears after enabling custom icons.
Preview your changes by clicking the "Preview" button at the bottom of the page.
Click "Save" to apply your customizations.
Verify your changes appear correctly in the menu list.

Troubleshooting

If custom icons aren't displaying correctly in nested menu items, ensure the parent menu item has the correct icon selected and that all sub-items have been saved properly. For persistent display issues, try refreshing your browser cache or logging out and back in.
