Support Multi-Select Fields in the Onboarding Process

The Onboarding feature in Cadence now supports multi-select dropdown fields, allowing you to collect more detailed information from attendees during their first interaction with your event. By configuring these fields in the Onboarding › Reset section, you can enable attendees to select multiple options from a predefined list, providing you with more comprehensive data for personalization and reporting.

Before you start

You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to configure multi-select fields in the onboarding process.

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "People" from the left sidebar menu.
Click on "Custom Fields" in the submenu.
Click the blue "+" button to create a new custom field.
Enter a name for your custom field.
Select "Multi-select" as the field type from the dropdown menu.
Multi-select fields are ideal for categories where attendees might belong to multiple groups, such as areas of interest or product specialties.
Add options by clicking "Add Option" and entering each value.
You can add as many options as needed, but consider limiting the list to improve the user experience.
Enable "Required Field" if attendees must select at least one option.
Click "Save" to create your multi-select custom field.
Navigate to "Onboarding" in the left sidebar menu.
Select the "Fields" tab at the top of the page.
Check the "Enable Event-Level Custom Fields" box.
Choose whether to include "All fields" or "Selected fields" in the onboarding process.
Select your new multi-select field if you chose the "Selected fields" option.
If you don't see your new multi-select field in the list, refresh the page or verify that the field was created successfully.
Click "Save" to apply your changes.
Test your configuration by resetting onboarding for a test user:
  • Go to the "Reset Onboarding" tab
  • Search for a test user account
  • Click "Reset Onboarding" next to their name

Troubleshooting

If attendees report issues with multi-select fields during onboarding:
  • Verify that the multi-select field is properly configured with valid options
  • Check that the field appears correctly on both web and mobile platforms
  • Ensure the onboarding flow is enabled in the Settings tab
