Resolve Common Group Creation Issues

The Groups feature in Cadence allows you to organize attendees into logical categories, but users may encounter issues when creating or managing groups. Through the Groups Menu › Settings section, you can troubleshoot common problems that prevent successful group creation, including permission settings, visibility configurations, and membership limitations.

When to use

  • When users report being unable to create new groups
  • When groups aren't appearing for certain attendees
  • When group membership changes aren't saving properly
  • When attempting to resolve error messages related to groups
You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify Groups settings and troubleshoot creation issues.

How to do it

    Verify permission settings for group creation.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
    Select "Groups" from the left sidebar menu.
    Click on "Settings" in the submenu that appears.
    Check if "Allow Users to Create Groups" is enabled.
If this setting is disabled, only administrators can create groups, which may explain why regular attendees cannot create their own groups.
    Toggle the setting ON if you want to allow attendees to create groups.
    Click "Save" to apply your changes.
    Verify group visibility settings by selecting a problematic group.
    Review the "Public" or "Private" setting for the group.
Private groups are only visible to members and administrators, which may explain why some attendees cannot see certain groups.
    Check that the Groups feature is enabled in your event menu.
    Navigate to "Event Setup" → "Menu" in the left sidebar.
    Confirm that "Groups" is listed as an enabled menu item.
    Verify the user's event registration status.
Users must be registered for the event before they can create or join groups.
    Check if the user has the latest version of the mobile app if using a mobile device.
    Clear the browser cache if using the web version.

Troubleshooting

If groups still aren't working properly:
  • Verify that your Cadence license type includes the Groups feature
  • Check if you've reached any system limits for group creation
  • Ensure the user is not attempting to create a group with a name that already exists
  • Confirm that the event time zone is properly configured, as time zone issues can affect various features
