How to prevent duplicate schedule item selection across different sections

Prevent Duplicate Schedule Item Selection Across Different Sections

The Schedule Registration feature in Cadence allows you to prevent attendees from selecting the same schedule item multiple times when it appears in different sections during event registration. Through the Registration Menu › Schedule section, you can configure this setting to ensure each schedule item can only be selected once, improving the registration experience and preventing confusion.

When to use

  • When the same schedule items appear in multiple tracks or sections
  • When you want to prevent attendees from accidentally registering for the same session multiple times
  • When you need to ensure accurate attendance counts for schedule items
  • When using track-based registration with overlapping content
You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify registration settings.

How to do it

    Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
    Click on "People" in the left sidebar menu.
    Select "Registration" from the submenu that appears.
    Click on the "Schedule" tab at the top of the page.
    Toggle "Allow Schedule Selection During Event Registration" to enable this feature.
Disabling this setting will remove the schedule selection option from your event's registration process.
    Configure your minimum and maximum selection requirements if needed.
Setting reasonable limits helps guide attendees to select an appropriate number of sessions.
    Click "Save" to apply your changes.
    Navigate to "Schedule" in the left sidebar menu.
    Select "Options" from the submenu.
    Ensure that the system setting to prevent duplicate selection is enabled.
This setting is enabled by default in newer versions of Cadence and cannot be disabled.
    Return to the Registration form builder to preview how schedule items will appear.
    Test the registration process to verify that when a schedule item is selected in one section, it becomes disabled with a tooltip message in other sections.

Troubleshooting

If duplicate schedule items are still selectable during registration:
  • Verify you're using the latest version of Cadence that includes this feature
  • Check that the schedule items have identical IDs in the system (items with different IDs will not be recognized as duplicates)
  • Ensure you've saved all configuration changes and refreshed the registration form
