How to optimize menu structure for mobile devices

The Menu section in Cadence allows you to customize your event's navigation structure for optimal display on mobile devices. By making thoughtful adjustments to menu labels, organization, and visibility settings, you can create a streamlined mobile experience that helps attendees navigate your event efficiently on smaller screens.

When to use

  • When your event has a significant number of mobile app users
  • When your menu structure appears cluttered on mobile devices
  • When preparing to launch your event to attendees who will use mobile devices
  • When you need to prioritize certain features for mobile users

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Click on "Event Setup" in the left sidebar menu.
Select "Menu" from the submenu that appears.
Review your current menu structure with mobile devices in mind.
Install the Cadence mobile app on your phone to preview how your menu currently appears to mobile users.
Keep menu labels concise by editing existing items to use shorter names.
Mobile screens display fewer characters than desktop, so aim for labels under 15 characters when possible.
Prioritize essential features by using the drag handles (six dots) to move important items to the top of the menu.
Consider using nested menus to group related items and reduce clutter.
Limit nested menu depth to one level on mobile to prevent navigation difficulties.
Click the pencil icon next to any menu item you want to modify.
Adjust icons to ensure they clearly represent the menu item's function on smaller screens.
Set appropriate visibility settings to show only relevant items to mobile users.
Use the "Specified" visibility option with attendance types to create different experiences for in-person versus remote attendees.
Test your menu on multiple mobile devices to ensure readability and usability.
Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to apply all your changes.

Troubleshooting

If menu items appear incorrectly on mobile devices:
  • Verify that users have the latest version of the Cadence mobile app
  • Check that menu labels aren't too long, causing text wrapping issues
  • Ensure nested menu structures aren't too complex for mobile navigation
