Balance Notification Frequency to Avoid Overwhelming Attendees

The Notifications Settings page in Cadence allows you to create a balanced notification strategy that keeps attendees informed without overwhelming them. By carefully configuring Schedule Reminders, Live Feed notifications, and Messaging Channels alerts, you can ensure participants receive the right information at the right time throughout your event while preventing notification fatigue.

When to use

  • When planning your event communication strategy
  • When managing notification volume for attendees
  • When coordinating multiple communication channels
  • When seeking to improve attendee engagement without causing notification fatigue

Before you start

You must have Admin or Event Manager permissions to modify notification settings.

How to do it

Navigate to your event dashboard in Cadence.
Select "Notifications" from the left sidebar menu.
Click the "Settings" tab at the top of the page.
Enable Schedule Reminders by checking the box if not already enabled.
Select an appropriate reminder time from the dropdown menu based on your event's needs.
Choose longer times (25-60 minutes) for large venues where attendees need more travel time between sessions, and shorter times (5-15 minutes) for compact venues.
Consider disabling Live Feed notifications by unchecking the box.
When enabled, attendees receive notifications for all Live Feed posts, which can quickly lead to notification fatigue during active events.
Configure Messaging Channels notifications based on your event's communication needs.
Private channel members always receive notifications regardless of this setting, so this only affects public channel notifications.
Create a notification schedule to plan when manual notifications will be sent.
Limit manual notifications to 2-3 per day and space them at least 2 hours apart to prevent overwhelming attendees.
Prioritize critical information for manual notifications, such as schedule changes or emergency updates.
Consider time zones when scheduling notifications for virtual or hybrid events.
Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to apply your settings.
Test your notification strategy with a small group before your event begins.

Troubleshooting

If attendees report receiving too many notifications:
  • Disable Live Feed notifications
  • Reduce the frequency of manual notifications
  • Consider using targeted notifications to specific groups rather than sending to all attendees
If attendees report not receiving notifications:
  • Verify they haven't disabled push notifications on their devices
  • Confirm the notification settings are properly saved in your event
  • Check that attendees have the latest version of the Cadence mobile app (v2.7.404 for Android or v2.7.393 for iOS)
