Plan an Effective Onboarding Flow for Your Event

The Onboarding menu in Cadence allows you to create a structured experience for attendees when they first access your event. By thoughtfully planning your onboarding flow across the Fields, Settings, Welcome, Terms & Conditions, and Video tabs, you can collect necessary information while providing a smooth introduction to your event.

When to use

  • When setting up a new event's onboarding experience
  • When you want to collect specific information from attendees
  • When you need to provide important event information or instructions
  • When you want to create a professional first impression

Before you start

You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to configure the onboarding experience.

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "Onboarding" from the left sidebar menu.
Map out your onboarding goals before configuring any settings.
Identify what information you absolutely need versus what would be nice to have. Each additional field decreases completion rates.
Plan your sequence by determining the logical order of steps:
  • Welcome message (introduction and expectations)
  • Profile information (essential fields only)
  • Topics selection (if networking is important)
  • Terms & Conditions (if legally required)
  • Video introduction (for a personal touch)
Configure the Fields tab to collect only essential profile information.
Requiring too many fields can lead to abandonment. Limit required fields to 3-5 maximum.
Create a concise welcome message in the Welcome tab that clearly explains the benefits of completing onboarding.
Add a brief video in the Video tab that introduces your event or provides instructions.
Keep videos under 60 seconds for optimal engagement.
Enable Topics in the Settings tab if networking is a key component of your event.
Include Terms & Conditions only if legally necessary.
Test the complete flow by using the Reset Onboarding feature for a test account.
Measure completion rates after your event launches and adjust if needed.

Troubleshooting

If you notice low completion rates, consider:
  • Reducing the number of required fields
  • Shortening your welcome message and video
  • Simplifying complex custom fields
  • Ensuring the flow works properly on both web and mobile platforms
