Use Onboarding Data to Personalize Attendee Experiences
The Onboarding menu in Cadence allows you to collect valuable information from attendees when they first access your event. By strategically configuring custom fields in the Onboarding › Fields section, you can gather data that helps personalize content, recommendations, and networking opportunities throughout the attendee's event experience.
When to use
When you want to deliver personalized content based on attendee interests
When creating targeted networking opportunities between attendees with similar interests
When customizing schedule recommendations based on attendee preferences
When segmenting attendees for personalized communications
Before you start
You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to configure these settings.
How to do it
Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "Onboarding" from the left sidebar menu.
Click on the "Fields" tab at the top of the page.
Check the "Enable Event-Level Custom Fields" box.
You can click the "here" link to set up or edit your event-level custom fields if needed.
Create custom fields that will help with personalization:
Interest areas
Experience level
Content preferences
Networking goals
Choose "Selected fields" to control which fields appear during onboarding.
Select the specific fields you want to include in the onboarding process.
Click "Save" to apply your changes.
Navigate to "People" → "Attendees" → "Custom Fields" to view collected data.
Use the collected data to create targeted groups based on interests.
Groups can be used for sending personalized notifications or creating networking opportunities.
Configure content recommendations in the Schedule menu based on interest data.
Set up personalized home tiles that display content relevant to each attendee's interests.
Create custom notifications for different attendee segments.
Review engagement analytics to refine your personalization strategy.
Troubleshooting
If attendees report they cannot complete the onboarding process:
Verify that all required custom fields are properly configured
Check that the onboarding flow is enabled in the Settings tab
Ensure custom fields don't contain validation errors that prevent completion
