The Direct Messaging feature in Cadence allows attendees to communicate privately with each other during your event. Located in the Attendees Settings section, these permissions control whether attendees can message freely or only after connecting with each other, helping you create the right balance of networking and privacy for your specific event needs.
When to use
When planning events with networking components
When managing attendee privacy requirements
When configuring communication options between participants
When determining how attendees can interact with each other
You must have Admin or Event Manager permissions to modify these settings.
How to do it
Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "People" from the left sidebar menu.
Click "Attendees" in the submenu.
Choose the "Settings" tab at the top of the page.
Enable direct messaging by checking the "Enable Direct Messaging" option.
Direct messaging works best when public profiles are also enabled so attendees can find each other.
Decide on connection requirements by checking or unchecking the "Only Connections" option.
When "Only Connections" is enabled, attendees must first connect with each other before they can exchange messages.
Consider related settings that affect communication:
"Enable Public Profiles" must be checked for attendees to see each other
"Enable Video Chat" allows video communication alongside text messaging
Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to apply your changes.
Changes to direct messaging settings will affect all users in your event immediately.
Troubleshooting
If attendees report issues with direct messaging functionality:
Verify that "Enable Public Profiles" is checked
Confirm they are connected with the other attendee if "Only Connections" is enabled
Check that they have not been blocked by the other attendee
