How to Create a Cohesive Color Scheme While Using Different Feature Colors

The Advanced Colors option in the Color Theme menu allows you to assign different colors to individual features while maintaining visual harmony throughout your event. This approach gives you more flexibility than using a single Custom Color, while still creating a professional and cohesive appearance across web and mobile platforms.

When to use

  • When you want distinct colors for different features but need them to work well together
  • When organizing features into visual categories through color
  • When you need to highlight certain features while maintaining overall design consistency

How to do it

Navigate to Event Setup in your Cadence admin dashboard.
Select Color Theme from the left sidebar menu.
Choose "Advanced Colors" from the available theme options.
Plan your color palette before making selections.
Choose 2-4 primary colors that complement each other, then use variations (lighter/darker shades) of these colors for different features.
Group related features by assigning them similar colors.
For example, use variations of blue for communication features (Messaging, Live Feed) and variations of green for content features (Materials, Collections).
Click on each feature's color box to open the color picker.
Select colors or enter hex codes for each feature.
To ensure colors work well together, use a color harmony tool like Adobe Color or < Coolors.co > to generate complementary color schemes.
Test color contrast to ensure readability.
Avoid using very light colors for text elements as they may be difficult to read against white backgrounds.
Click "Apply Color to All" to save your changes.
Preview your event in a new browser tab to see how the colors work together.
Make adjustments if needed by returning to the Color Theme menu.

Troubleshooting

If custom menu items don't display your selected colors correctly, try reapplying the color theme or check if the menu item was created before the color theme was applied.
