How to use direct messaging for networking

Direct messaging in Cadence allows you to communicate privately with other event attendees, helping you build meaningful connections during your event. Located within the Attendees menu settings, this feature can be configured to require connections first or allow open messaging between all participants, depending on your event's networking goals.

When to use

  • When you want to initiate one-on-one conversations with other attendees
  • When following up after meeting someone at an event session
  • When coordinating meetups or sharing information privately
  • When building your professional network during virtual or hybrid events

Before you start

Direct messaging must be enabled by an event administrator in the Attendees Settings. Depending on configuration, you may need to connect with attendees first before messaging them.

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Click on "People" in the left sidebar menu.
    Select "Attendees" from the submenu.
If direct messaging is restricted to connections only, you'll need to connect with attendees before messaging them.
Find the attendee you want to message using the search bar or by browsing the directory.
Click on the attendee's name or profile card to view their profile.
Look for the messaging icon in the contact options section of their profile.
If you don't see a messaging icon, you may need to connect with the attendee first by clicking the "Connect" button on their profile.
Click the messaging icon to open a new conversation window.
Type your message in the text field at the bottom of the conversation window.
Add attachments, photos, or GIFs if desired by using the attachment options.
Press Enter or click the send button to deliver your message.
All messages sent through the platform may be monitored by event administrators.
Access your ongoing conversations anytime by clicking the messaging icon in the top navigation bar.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot send direct messages:
  • Verify that direct messaging is enabled for the event
  • Check if you need to connect with the attendee first
  • Ensure you have not been restricted from messaging by an administrator
