Balance Between Required and Optional Schedule Selections

The Schedule Registration feature in Cadence allows you to set requirements for how many schedule items attendees must or can select during event registration. Through the Registration Menu › Schedule section, you can configure minimum and maximum selection requirements to create the right balance between mandatory participation and optional choices, ensuring attendees engage with your event content while maintaining flexibility.

When to use

  • When you want to ensure minimum participation in sessions while allowing choice
  • When organizing events with both required and elective sessions
  • When you need to balance attendance across different types of activities
  • When creating a flexible registration experience that still meets event goals
You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify registration settings.

How to do it

    Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
    Click on "People" in the left sidebar menu.
    Select "Registration" from the submenu that appears.
    Click on the "Schedule" tab at the top of the page.
    Toggle "Allow Schedule Selection During Event Registration" to enable this feature.
Disabling this setting will remove the schedule selection option from your event's registration process.
    Check the "Minimum Selections" box to require attendees to select a minimum number of schedule items.
    Enter the minimum number of required selections in the field that appears.
Start with a low minimum (1-2 items) to encourage participation without overwhelming attendees or causing registration abandonment.
    Check the "Maximum Selections" box to limit how many schedule items attendees can select.
    Enter the maximum number of allowed selections in the field that appears.
Leave this field blank if you want to allow unlimited selections after meeting the minimum requirement.
    Click "Save" to apply your changes.
    Preview your registration form to see how the requirements appear to registrants.
The system will automatically display messages like "You must choose at least 1 and can choose up to 3 from this section to complete your registration" based on your settings.

Troubleshooting

If attendees report confusion about selection requirements:
  • Verify that the minimum is not higher than the maximum selection limit
  • Ensure there are enough available schedule items with registration enabled
  • Check that the validation messages are displaying correctly in the registration form preview
