Create and Configure Event-Level Custom Fields
Event-level custom fields allow you to collect specific information from attendees during the onboarding process. By configuring these fields in the Cadence platform, you can gather data that's relevant to your particular event and ensure all attendees provide this information before accessing event content.
Before you start
You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to create and configure custom fields.
How to do it
Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "People" from the left sidebar menu.
Click on "Custom Fields" in the submenu.
Click the blue "+" button to create a new custom field.
Enter a name for your custom field.
Use clear, descriptive names that indicate exactly what information you're requesting.
Select a field type from the dropdown menu:
Dropdown (single-select)
Multi-select
Short Response
Free Text
Configure the field options based on your selection:
For Dropdown fields: Add options by clicking "Add Option" and entering each value
For Multi-select fields: Add all possible selection options
For Short Response: Set character limits if needed
For Free Text: Set any formatting requirements
Enable "Required Field" if attendees must complete this field.
Required fields that aren't properly configured may prevent attendees from completing onboarding.
Click "Save" to create your custom field.
Navigate to "Onboarding" in the left sidebar menu.
Select the "Fields" tab at the top of the page.
Check the "Enable Event-Level Custom Fields" box.
Choose whether to include "All fields" or "Selected fields" in the onboarding process.
Select specific fields if you chose the "Selected fields" option.
Limiting the number of fields can improve completion rates by making the onboarding process quicker for attendees.
Click "Save" to apply your changes.
Test your configuration by resetting onboarding for a test user:
Go to the "Reset Onboarding" tab
Search for a test user account
Click "Reset Onboarding" next to their name
Troubleshooting
If attendees report issues with the onboarding process:
Verify that all required custom fields are properly configured
Ensure dropdown options are correctly defined
Check that validation rules aren't too restrictive
Confirm the onboarding flow is enabled in the Settings tab
