How to enable Topics for attendee profiles and recommendations

Enable Topics for Attendee Profiles and Recommendations

The Topics feature in Cadence allows attendees to select interest areas during onboarding, which powers personalized connection recommendations and enhances networking opportunities. Through the Onboarding menu's Settings tab, you can enable Topics functionality, allowing attendees to select from predefined interest areas or create their own topics during the onboarding process.

When to use

  • When creating networking-focused events
  • When you want to facilitate connections between attendees with similar interests
  • When personalizing content recommendations based on attendee preferences
  • When organizing attendees into interest-based groups

Before you start

You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify onboarding settings.

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "Onboarding" from the left sidebar menu.
Click on the "Settings" tab at the top of the page.
    Locate the "Enable Topics" option.
If Topics are already configured at the account level, you'll see a message indicating their current status.
Toggle the "Enable Topics" switch to the ON position.
Configure topic settings by clicking on the "Configure Topics" link.
This link takes you to the Topics configuration page where you can add, edit, or remove topics.
Add topics by clicking the "+" button.
You can either create individual topics or select from existing account-level topics.
Set permissions by returning to the "Settings" tab and checking "Allow Attendees to create Topics" if you want attendees to add their own topics.
Save your changes by clicking the "Save" button at the bottom of the page.
Verify that Topics appear in the onboarding flow by previewing the onboarding experience.

Troubleshooting

If Topics don't appear in the onboarding flow or on attendee profiles:
  • Confirm that you've enabled both Topics and Onboarding features
  • Check that you've added at least one topic in the Topics tab
  • Verify that the event has the correct license type that supports Topics
