How to configure registration type (public vs. private)

Configure Registration Type (Public vs. Private)

The Registration Menu in Cadence allows you to control how attendees register for your event. Through the Registration Menu › Settings section, you can choose between public registration options (open to anyone) or private registration options (restricted to specific individuals or groups), helping you manage who can access your event.

When to use

  • When setting up a new event's registration process
  • When controlling who can register for your event
  • When using third-party registration platforms like Eventbrite
  • When restricting registration to specific email domains or user groups

Before you start

You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify registration settings.

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Click on "People" in the left sidebar menu.
Select "Registration" from the submenu that appears.
If you don't see the Registration option, you may need to enable it first in your event settings.
Click on the "Settings" tab at the top of the page.
Verify that "Enable Event Registration" is toggled on.
Disabling this setting will prevent attendees from registering for your event.
Select your preferred "Registration Type" from the dropdown menu.
Public options include Open Registration, Eventbrite Embedded, and External Registration URL. Private options include By Email List, by Domains, to Existing Users, and to Specific Account Group.
Configure additional settings based on your selected registration type:
  • For "Public - Open Registration": No additional configuration needed
  • For "Public - Eventbrite Embedded": Add your Eventbrite event ID
  • For "Public - External Registration URL": Enter the external registration URL
  • For "Private - By Email List": Create your email list in the Registration List tab
  • For "Private - by Domains": Enter allowed email domains
  • For "Private - to Existing Users": Only users already in your account can register
  • For "Private - to Specific Account Group": Select which account groups can register
Enter a "Registration Page URL Short Name" to create a custom URL for your registration page.
Consider enabling "Hide event when not registered" if you want the event to be invisible until registration is complete.
Click "Save" at the bottom of the page to apply your changes.

Troubleshooting

If attendees report being unable to register despite meeting your criteria, verify that:
  • The correct registration type is selected
  • Any domain restrictions are properly formatted ( example.com , not @example.com)
  • Email lists are properly uploaded and formatted
  • Account groups are correctly configured if using group-based registration
