Optimize Onboarding for Improved Attendee Engagement

The Onboarding menu in Cadence allows you to create an engaging first experience for your event attendees. By strategically configuring your onboarding flow through the Onboarding › Settings section, you can increase completion rates, collect valuable attendee information, and set the stage for higher event participation.

When to use

  • When planning a new event's onboarding experience
  • When current onboarding completion rates are lower than expected
  • When seeking to improve attendee engagement throughout your event
  • When collecting specific information to personalize the attendee experience

Before you start

You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify onboarding settings.

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence Admin account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Select "Onboarding" from the left sidebar menu.
Review your current onboarding completion metrics at the bottom of the Fields tab.
Low completion rates may indicate your onboarding process is too lengthy or complex.
Click on the "Fields" tab at the top of the page.
Choose "Selected fields" instead of "All fields" to streamline the experience.
Select only the most essential fields that provide value to both attendees and organizers.
Each additional field decreases the likelihood of onboarding completion.
Click on the "Settings" tab to configure engagement options.
Check "Enable Topics" to allow attendees to select interest areas during onboarding.
Topics help connect attendees with similar interests and can be used for personalized content recommendations.
Check "Allow Attendees to set their visibility to private" to give attendees control over their profile visibility.
Check "Enable Terms and Conditions" only if legal agreements are required for your event.
Click on the "Welcome" tab to customize your greeting message.
Create a concise welcome message that clearly explains the benefits of completing onboarding.
Navigate to the "Video" tab if you want to include a brief welcome or instructional video.
Keep videos under 60 seconds for optimal engagement.
Save your changes in each section.
Test the optimized flow by resetting onboarding for a test account in the Reset tab.
Monitor completion rates after implementing your changes.

Troubleshooting

If attendees report being unable to complete onboarding, check that:
  • All required custom fields are properly configured
  • The onboarding flow is enabled in the Settings tab
  • Custom fields don't contain validation errors
