Balance Customization with User Expectations

The Schedule Labels section in Cadence allows you to customize key terminology used throughout your event's schedule interface. While customizing labels in the Schedule Menu › Labels area can create a more intuitive experience for your specific audience, it's important to balance customization with user expectations to avoid confusion and ensure a smooth navigation experience.

When to use

  • When implementing custom labels for your event
  • When considering how terminology changes might affect attendee experience
  • When creating events for audiences with varying levels of technical expertise
  • When standardizing terminology across multiple events

Before you start

You must have System Administrator or Event Manager permissions to modify schedule labels. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).

How to do it

Log in to your Cadence account.
    Navigate to your event dashboard.
Click on "Schedule" in the left sidebar menu.
Select "Labels" from the submenu that appears.
Consider your audience before making label changes.
Think about your attendees' familiarity with industry terminology and their expectations based on previous events.
Research common terminology used in similar events.
Using widely recognized terms can reduce the learning curve for first-time attendees.
Toggle the switches for only the labels that truly need customization.
Changing too many standard terms simultaneously can disorient users and create a steeper learning curve.
Enter clear, descriptive terms that are intuitive to your audience.
Choose terms that are concise and self-explanatory rather than overly creative or technical.
Test your custom labels with a small group of representative users if possible.
Preview how your custom labels appear in the attendee interface.
Use the Preview mode to see exactly how your labels will appear to attendees.
Document your custom label choices and the reasoning behind them.
Click "Save" to apply your changes.
Communicate label changes to attendees through pre-event communications.
Include a brief explanation of any unique terminology in welcome emails or onboarding materials.
Collect feedback after the event to evaluate if your custom labels enhanced or hindered the user experience.

Troubleshooting

If your custom labels aren't appearing in the mobile app, ensure you're using the latest version of the Cadence app (v2.7.387 for iOS or v2.7.404 for Android) and try refreshing your event data.
